The Retreat Barn

Originally built in 1900, our lovingly restored Retreat Barn is the central hub of Sky Meadow. All the main gathering spaces are here, conveniently located close to many of the lodgings and available year-round.

  • large indoor gathering space
  • kitchen, dining & tea bar
  • multiple seating areas & back porch
  • available year-round

This spacious and welcoming area is perfect for yoga practice, group workouts, meditation, presentations, talks, sharing circles, or even as a blank canvas on which to create a unique altar or focal point for your event. The hardwood yoga area is about 15′ x 45′, offering plenty of room to spread out. The many windows bathe the space in beautiful light and provide lovely views of the gardens while you gather. At night, twinkle lights around the space provide soft ambiance.

This space is conveniently located near the kitchen & dining area, tea bar, bathrooms and back porch. It comes fully stocked with yoga mats, blocks, blankets and straps for up to 20 people (with more on-hand by request for larger groups). It’s also equipped with a bluetooth sound system and fast, reliable Starlink wifi.

Our kitchen comes equipped with two sinks, a 6-burner range and oven, a large fridge/freezer, pantry space and plenty of cookware and utensils to prepare nourishing meals for large groups. You can or choose the lodging-only option if you wish to do your own cooking (or invite your own chef), or go with our catered retreat package to have us create nourishing farm-to-table meals for you throughout your retreat.

The dining room comes with plates, bowls and cutlery for a crowd, and makes the perfect cozy spot to share meals together on your retreat. Its huge picture windows offer beautiful views of the upper vegetable gardens and forests in the distance.

The self-serve coffee and tea bar is available to you and your guests 24/7 during your retreat, with a hot tea water tap available for super-convenient brewing. We keep it stocked with fair-trade ground coffee and a variety of organic teas, plus raw sugar, sugar-free sweetener and (our personal favorite) some of our area’s wonderful organic, raw honey. For catered retreats we also stock a variety of local dairy cream and plant-based options. (Lodging-only retreats may wish to BYO preferred creamer.)

Just outside the main level of the Barn you’ll find our spacious back porch, with hand-hewn rocking chairs overlooking the pasture. Its north-facing orientation helps it to stay cool and shady even in the height of summer. It’s the perfect place to spend a quiet morning with a cup of coffee while you watch the chickens and sheep roam, or turn on the twinkle lights for evening conversations in the breeze.

The main level of the Retreat Barn offers several more seating areas inside, with a beautiful soapstone woodstove that’s perfect for chilly evenings and winter ambiance. Here you’ll also find a piano, various musical instruments, books and puzzles. Free and fast Starlink wifi is available throughout the space, and a flat-screen television or HDMI-equipped projector (best for nighttime use) can also be set up for you by request.

The grounds

The property around Sky Meadow offers several dedicated gathering spaces, and countless more delightful nooks and crannies to discover. You’ll find plenty to explore and enjoy around the 115-acre property.

  • covered & outdoor firepits
  • hilltop with mountain views
  • meditation gazebo
  • walking trails
  • swimming ponds

The Hearth Circle is an approximately 30′ diameter pavilion tucked a little ways back in the woods, a pleasant ~5-minute walk from the Retreat Barn. It features a central firepit, bench seating for a crowd and a bluetooth-equipped sound system. The roof shields you from the elements while the screened windows let in all that clean forest air (and help keep bugs out!). The perfect place for meaningful ceremony, lively celebration, a music jam, or even just some good ol’-fashioned smore-making.

As you continue past the Hearth Circle and up the hill, you’ll find the highest point of the property, the hilltop that gives Sky Meadow its name. It’s surrounded by breathtaking views of the green mountains and covered in beautiful meadow grasses and native flowers and herbs. Start your day with early morning meditation in the cedar-scented meditation gazebo as the sun rises over the hilltops, and later be sure to bring up some cozy blankets for a campfire under the stars. The gazebo can comfortably seat 6-8 people, making it perfect for breakout sessions or small group meditation.

No visit to Sky Meadow is complete without a walk through the meadows and woods! Sky Meadow’s 115 acres includes numerous paths around the hilltop and ponds, and minimally disturbed forest trails that feel like stepping into a fairytale world. Slow down, breathe deep and take time to soak in the beauty of the mossy groves, woodland creeks and abundance of mushrooms and wildflowers. You might even catch sight of one of our local herd of white-tail deer, who rely heavily on these woods for their winter feeding grounds.

There are a number of ponds around Sky Meadow that are great for a swim or to cool off on hot summer days. Our favorite for swimming is the lower pond, located on the western side of the property near the Robin’s Nest. A rock island in the middle gives it its name, “Island Pond.” All the ponds are naturally fed by spring snowmelt and rainwater and remain remarkably clear and clean.

We take pride in growing lovely vegetables and fruits using organic methods and with a commitment to regenerative farming practices. As a member of the United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary Network, we steward a bounty of native plants to provide beauty and medicine in our safe haven for endangered monarch butterflies and at-risk medicinal herbs. Fresh produce from our garden helps provide nourishing and delicious meals for our catered retreats. If visiting during the summer, make sure to stop by the berry patches for a snack on the go!

Sky Meadow is home to a small flock of friendly sheep and a delightful gaggle of laying hens, all of whom free range openly around the property. Whether you see them from the back porch or meet face to face while out and about, you’ll love getting to know each of their unique personalities.

And of course, we couldn’t possibly forget about Shadow the cat, whose incredibly loving and intelligent presence makes her a magical addition to every retreat.
